The Crow Museum of Asian Art of The University of Texas at Dallas is a jewel of the Dallas Arts District donated to the university by Trammel and Margaret Crow. Their commitment to love and celebrate the arts and cultures of Asia is carried out in the museum’s vision.

n the mid-1960s, Trammel and Margaret Crow purchased a single art piece that launched their collection of over 4,000 works of Asian art. In 1998, the best works were curated, and The Crow Collection of Asian Art opened in the Dallas Arts District,
Twenty years later, the museum was renamed the Crow Museum of Asian Art after a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation. If there was a museum of beautiful museums, this one would deserve to be in it, courtesy of two Dallas firms, Oglesby Greene Architects and The Beck Group.
While the design of the museum would make it pleasant to look at even if it was empty, that’s far from the case. The current exhibition, Japan, Form & Function: The Montgomery Collection, comprises 240 works representing multiple themes and regions. This single exhibit, displayed throughout all the museum galleries, is unprecedented for the museum which opened in April 2023 and will run through April 2025. The collection from which this landmark exhibit is curated has been acknowledged as the largest collection of Japanese folk art outside Japan.
As for the Crow’s collection of art, it’s been donated in its entirety to The University of Texas at Dallas. The family made the donation in 2019, and once again renamed the museum, whose full name is now The Crow Museum of Asian Art of the University of Texas at Dallas. A second museum is currently under construction on the university campus, and is expected to open in August 2024.
